Letter
from our CCWA President Dear Members,
I
want to express my sincere appreciation for your
continued support. I know that these have been two
of the most trying
years for you and your family; the furloughs, a stalled
budget process, and the threat of minimal federal wage.
Despite this your commitment to the Association remains
unwavering.
Your resilience is truly inspiring.
I am optimistic about
the future of all state employees. I know that together,
regardless of our membership in one of the many State Employee
Associations or Bargaining Units, we will send a strong message
to Governor Schwarzenegger and the legislators. It is time
to STOP! STOP playing partisan politics at the expense of
selective state employees. Approve a state budget. STOP stalling
in negotiations with the Bargaining
Units. Approve the contracts that the Bargaining Units have
negotiated
in good faith.
The
Association’s goals remain the same despite the
uncertainty of the future. We are committed to providing
our members and state employees with quality training.
The Training Committee has established
the ground work for our upcoming Training Conference. The
Training
Conference will be held at the Tachi Hotel & Casino
in Lemoore, California on November 11, 2011. Mark your
calendar. We hope to see
you all there.
The
Association’s
Chapters have been busy statewide building bridges with
their institution’s administrators and their communities.
Many of our chapters
have made monitory contributions to institutional-sponsored
events. Additionally,
many have held fundraising campaigns in order to raise
money for scholarships.
I would like to thank all of the wardens for continuing
to support chapter efforts.
Because of their support the chapters have been able to
award thousands of
dollars in scholarships to deserving students.
The
Association has plans to embark on a reaching out and recruitment
campaign. Many of our members have expressed that they
have not received
notice of past or future events. They have felt a sense
of detachment. We have
looked into the members’ concerns and determined
that many of our members
have moved, changed jobs or retired, and a change of address
was not properly
processed. In order to correct this oversight, the Recruitment
Coordinator and the
Chapter Presidents will be holding outreach and recruitment
events at your local
institutions. Please stop by and pick up some CCWA freebies
that we have for
you while you update your contact information.
The
Association’s Newsletter Editors have been busy
putting together the next
edition of the CCWA Journal. If you have a noteworthy story
you would like to
share, please contact our editors via the web.
In closing,
I would like to congratulate all of our members that
have been recently promoted and/or retired. Great
Job!!! You deserve it. Additionally, I would like to
encourage those members that desire to
promote in the future to study hard and continue to attend
our
training conferences.
Humbly yours,
SYLVIA CORDERO
