Avenal State Prison Chapter

Location Avenal State Prison
1. Meeting was called to order at 1400 hrs. by President Maria Holdren.

2. Roll was taken (See sign in sheet) and a quorum was established.

3. Minutes from the October 8, 2008 meeting were read and approved. There were no minutes for September 2008.

4. Treasurer’s report was given with a $ 1,461.78 balance as of October 29, 2008. All receipts and expenses approved and within budget. Saving Account is $847.00 as of October 4, 2008.

5. Old Business:

a. Proposals and create criteria for scholarship. President Holdren will email the draft proposal to all for input. Chapter proposes to consider 2-$200.00 Scholarships for two for CCWA family members and two for a farm workers child. When more funds become available, this will be modified accordingly.

b. Ticket Sell. A total of 400 tickets were printed. We sold 347 tickets as of today. Drawing will be on Friday, November 14, 2008. If we sell all 400 tickets we will make a $1500.00 profit.

c. Adopted a family from the Christmas tree in the administration building. The family consists of a grandmother and four kids. ASP Chapter proposes to buy gifts and Christmas dinner for the family. Other proposals were buying a gas voucher of 100.00, food gift card 100.00, mall gift card 100.00 and kids gifts 200.00. This would be a total of $500 maximum.

d. Fundraisers: Next fundraiser would like see if we are able to do a food sale. Suggestion was to sell tamales for Xmas. Maria will meet with the Warden to see if he would approve such a sale and Lisa will contact Lt. Jepsen about the proper procedures to implement the sale if approved.

e. Avenal Annual Christmas party: Two tables were purchase for the executive board.

f. We sent 4 members to training in San Diego. Training money is for training only. Some meals and gas will be paid by Association and some by Chapter. Need to submit paperwork for reimbursement. Training consisted of Gangs, Stress management, cultures. Will bring information to next meeting.
