Avenal State Prison Chapter

Location Avenal State Prison
Meeting was called to order at 1400 hrs. by President Maria Holdren.

Roll was taken (See sign in sheet) and a quorum was/ established.

Minutes from the January 16, 2009 meeting were read and approved.

The treasury report saving account was $868.54. Checking account balance is $1,884.39. Money from the checking account is to be used for the dance. Saving account will be used for scholarships.

Old Business:
Dance will be held at the Bowling Alley in Hanford. Deposit was made.
Ticket for the dance was distributed for sale.

Training will be on May 27 through 31, 2009. Five members will be attending.

New Business:
One $200.00 scholarship will be given to a local child from Coalinga, Huron Avenal or Kettleman City. Only one person applied. We have two scholarships available for a CCWA member or family. So far no one has applied. Will check on cutoff date. Dance money will be used for scholarships and training. Need office supplies (stamps, ink, and paper). Will buy after deposit from dues for this quarter.

Total for Valentine drawing was $1,268.00. Winners of the Valentine baskets were Steven Cothran and Gabbie Resendez. The money raised from the Valentine drawing will help pay for the Hotel for training. Will kick in about $300.00 for hotel from out funds. Funds for training fee will be paid after dance. These funds will pay for three members, Lisa Holquin, Helen Sanchez, and Manuel Contreras. The flyer is on the website. Any one that wants to go to training can fill out application and go on their own.

Helen and Maria will work on newsletter tomorrow and distribute as soon as everyone puts in their input and corrections.

Mariachi’s for the Dance fee will start at $500.00 an hour. Will look at other Mariachi’s. Will check with a staff member whose father plays the guitar and is willing to play for free. Only need them to play for about 1 1⁄2 hour. Just during dinner. If he is chosen, we will offer 4 tickets to dance.

Tickets: need payment for tickets that have not been paid for. Corcoran, North Kern, State Board and San Diego have each bought one table. San Diego wants to hear the band play. Several door prizes will be available for the dance.

Attended the CCPOA meeting to see if they would sponsor one member for training fee. Will get back to us after their board meeting.

Menudo/ posol? sale. More discussion needed. May change to taco sale.
Pass around trip for Las Vegas for September 16th will get prices for members also Bea from Record is organizing a trip to Los Angeles Garment District in May for those that would like to attend.Meeting Adjourned at 1515 hrs.
