Chicano
Correctional Workers Association
Avenal State Prison Chapter
Date: April 14, 2009
1. Meeting was called to order at 2:45 by Maria Holdren, President.
2. Roll was taken (see sign in sheet) and a quorum was established.
3. Minutes from March 2009 meeting were read and approved.
4. Treasurer’s report: Approximate profit from Spring Pachanga is $650. Still need two outstanding expense receipts from Lisa Holquin and Bertha Perez. Profit from taco sale was $414.16. Money voted to divide as follows: $125 to Avenal Sober Grad; $250 to Lemoore Youth Softball Association if we get our name on the T-Shirts. Remainder of funds will go to pay for the NLPOA expenses. Board wants a minimum of the name on hats. DeArtney did not show up from meeting and we were unable to discuss this matter. I will report in the next meeting if he is able to print our names and if funds were disbursed. Checkbook has $1100 cash available; savings account (Scholarship Fund) has $968.34.
Old Business:
1. Delia Jordan needs to pick up her tickets for the Summer Vacation
Raffle. Helen will give to her.
2. Discussed the bus trip to Las Vegas in September. Price from Classic Charter is approximately between $151 – 165 per person and we are looking for 50 people. Hotel(s) are in the downtown area. This includes room for two nights, double occupancy. There is a $100 deposit by June, and payment in full by August. The Mariachi Festival is at the Planet Hollywood and we can get the driver to drop us off and pick up at a specific time. Bertha wants to check out another vendor before we make a final decision. Date is September 11, 12, 13.
3. Notified board members I sent items in their CCWA website.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Cathy Lowas, Electrician, proposed that CCWA throw a softball tournament.
She will get all the specifics, i.e., field availability, registration
fee, equipment, umpires, score keepers, etc. If in Lemoore, we
will run and man
the snack bar
and collect any entries from teams who show up that day to sign
up. We will have a discount fee for those to pay early and full price
after a certain
date. We
will use funds to have a barbecue and stock the snack bar with
various items for sale.
2. Need Delia Jordan and Ana Martinez to complete the Acceptance Declaration Letter which was brought up at the February BOD. I have all the others and will send to the Sgt. of Arms at the next BOD in May. Joe Hinojosa will attend in Maria’s place and take the finance package to Esther Lara and the Declaration Letters to the Sgt. Of Arms.
3. Our chapter received four more vouchers for the training which will cover all of our people we are sending. Hotel has been paid for and will hopefully have more funds from the Summer Raffle Sale to help pay for the remainder needed for the travel claims.
Next meeting
will be held on May 20, 2009 during the raffle in the Avenal snack bar
at 2:30.
Meeting is adjourned at 3:35 p.m.
